| Making Fitness History |
Milton Harrison, is President & CEO, of
the Newark YMWCA which was established in 1881. The current
facility opened in 1959. It has a health and fitness center
for 4,000 members; a 12 story tower which holds residential
dwellings, emergency housing, an adult learning center and
offices.
Gerry Riera, Physical Director says, "Paramount was
the best value at any price range. We have their Advanced
Performance System with the Advanced Rotary Technology (ART)
stations and the Total Body line. The machines are durable
yet appealing and user friendly. The ART line was very smooth
and felt just like dumbbells. The Total Body plate loaded
line gave free weight users another option. Most plate loaded
equipment takes up too much room and therefore limits how
many pieces you can have. With the Paramount Total Leg, Chest,
Shoulder, Arm and Ab we did not have to sacrifice exercise
movements due to lack of space. The Total Leg, PFW-8800,
is my personal favorite."
Newark YMWCA has over 60 pieces of cardiovascular stations,
a separate free weight and strength training room, aerobic
studio, multi-purpose and boxing room, step, kickboxing,
stability balls, boxing (youth and adult), mat science, yoga,
african dance, karate, funk, prenatal, active older adult,
water aerobics, steam room, sauna, whirlpools and lounge.
The gymnasium has two full basketball courts housing leagues
and instructional programs, racquetball courts, squash court,
25 meter - 4 lane pool, cafe and baby-sitting.
